Fear of Falling is the FEAR OF FAILING…

Maybe it is time to try something different? Maybe your current work environment needs a change? Change is hard. It means stepping away from what you are comfortable with. We like comfort, yet it can hold us back. Four years ago, I left the comfort of my home, my family and my work of 7 years and moved to Ottawa. I found refuge by telling myself that, if I failed, I could go back. But I didn’t go back. In fact, I have moved on again by applying the skills I learned in the corporate world to my work as a #careercoach. Stepping out of my comfort zone is perpetual these days. I am #networking with other career professionals for potential business leads. Sharing my knowledge to help #jobseekers find their dream job. I am constantly soaking in all that there is to know about running a small business.

I keep my #ego in check by asking others for help too. It is our #ego that tells us no, wait, you are not good at this, you might fail. I am not going to lie, the fear of failing hovers around me. I work at it, just like I did four years ago when Ottawa was new to me. I also surround myself with those who support me. I ask my mentors for help. I watch and learn from others I admire. All of this allows me to get comfortably uncomfortable.

This might be the perfect time to let go of your #ego and give yourself permission to try something different. Have you searched for job opportunities lately? When is the last time you refreshed your résumé? Have you updated your LinkedIn profile? These are just a couple of areas for you to consider approaching first. The fear of falling is the fear of failing. It is time to step out of your #comfortzone.
